POST-WAR ITALY 1945 – early 1990s: From not been able to support her own people, to Italian products flooding the planet and leading the country becoming, in the early 1990s, the world 4th most industrialized country.

I come from a township in the northern side of central Italy, close to the city of Faenza, where the 2nd New Zealand Division was stationed for many months during the last part of WWII.

It was my grandmother, from Faenza, who told me the first story I ever heard about New Zealand, and also my mum used to recall the New Zealand soldiers.

I moved to Aotearoa in 1993 as a permanent resident, I bought a house in Milford in 1998, and I consider myself to be an Italian-North Shore Boy. My mates are Kiwis and New Zealand is home.

Giuseppe emigrated to Aotearoa in 1993 as a permanent resident. He made New Zealand home and considers himself to be an Italian North Shore Boy. He comes from the northern side of central Italy, an area rich in art and history, which also includes a part of New Zealand’s past.
